As the independent advice landscape continues to evolve, shaped by regulatory pressures, technological advancements and the realities of running a business in uncertain times, gaining insight into how peers are navigating similar challenges can be very valuable. With this in mind, we collaborated with UK-based consultancy the lang cat, who compiled the Adviser Barometer 2024/25 using survey responses from 595 advisers who support the Allan Gray Investment Platform. The research goes beyond fund and platform preferences to provide a glimpse into the realities of independent financial advisers in South Africa. It unpacks issues such as navigating the digital paradox of efficiency versus personal connection, current and future fee models, and engagement structures that balance profitability with client needs.

The first of two sessions exploring the Barometer findings took place on 9 April 2025. Taryn Duncan, specialist in the IFA Proposition team, hosted Mark Polson from the lang cat for a robust conversation about how advisers are thinking about structuring their client propositions and investment advice processes.
